Install OS Through IPKVM (Packages "F" - "K")

Using the Dell™ Remote Access Controller (IPKVM) allows users to remotely install operating systems with the latest out-of-box drivers. This installation method is a very good alternative for users who need to install an OS remotely without having to implement a complicated software deployment infrastructure.

This method is also very useful for deploying OS-to-target systems that do not have a DVD or CD-ROM device.

1: After logging in the IPKVM with the credentials provided to you, click the "Launch" button on the "vKVM & vMedia" section (located on the bottom left).

2: Click the two buttons labeled "Launch Java KVM Client" (which is the console) and "Launch Java VM Client" (which is where you attach the ISO/Virtual Media). You will need Java (JRE) installed. You might have to reduce the security settings in the Java Control Panel. (See the "How to Fix Java Applet Security Errors" knowledgebase article)

3: Once you have the "Java VM Client" window open, click on the button that says "Add Image", and then select your ISO/Virtual Media. Then, check the box next to your attached image to "Map" the image. This will virtually map the ISO onto your server.

4: Once you have the "Java KVM Client" console window open, reboot the server (Ctrl + Alt + Delete), press F11 during POST to force a boot menu, and choose the Virtual CDROM from the boot menu.
